Told the Kids

I went straight for it and told them the whole story. It was pretty fun. Long term effects or trauma are yet to be determined. Here are the very first reactions:

Kenna said, "I'm scared of bears ... Bears are really strong ... The bears in shows are scary." (Brave)

Quinn loved the scary about the bear that came to her house. When the story was over, she said, "We'll that's good. Like everyone at school has a bear story. Sam was riding to school and she saw a cub crossing the street. And the mama was peeking through the trees. And one time a cub climbed into a trash can and get stuck! He couldn't even get out!"
