So much fun tonight decorating gingerbread with our special friends Beth and Ben. I had the Broughton's and many other gingerbread partners of the past on my mind tonight. It is such a special thing to have had a life of so many special people, to have new special people in our lives now, and to know that there will always be people to celebrate with. Like every year, I was thinking tonight of Christmas 1995. My dear friend Bridget invited me to decorate the most beautiful, huge gingerbread houses with her family. It was a special family tradition, and they let me in that year. My eyes were opened and my heart changed to the playful magic of Christmas. I felt like I was given that day the freedom to be a kid at Christmas for the rest of my life, and I grew a passion to spend my life helping people feel the magical moments of life that mean the most to me and them -- serious moments, fun moments, important moments. It made me want to always set an extra place at my traditions or in my excitement for one more person or one more family or one more little mountain town. My friend Ben said something tonight like -- this is the most Christmasy I have ever felt in my life. Mission accomplished! Merry Christmas, Godbey Family (2013) And Merry Christmas, Broughton Family (2011 and 2012). And Merry Christmas, Kofford's and Purdie's (2005). And Merry Christmas, Daily Herald Family (2004) And Merry Christmas, Garnica Family (1995).
As I side note: I challenge myself to think about what special gift or experiences I have to offer this year. We always ask things like "Who would I love to have at my party?!" My goal this year is to ask more often, "Who would love being at my party? Who can I care for?" It is a subtle change that makes all the difference for me in why and how I do things. It is how I bring Christmas with me.
