I don't care for guns. Ok, I hate them. I believe in banning certain guns and certain equipment and in enforcing some stricter control. As Jon Stewart says, if we were still talking about muskets ... Then, shoot, you can have as many muskets as you want. But we're are not talking about 1780's firearms and we are not forging a Wild West anymore. I know the issues is complicated and has many sides and many truths. I don't know much. I just know that guns make me uncomfortable and guns are built to kill.
Anyway, I was reading a story about gun control in Colorado today. I thought this part of the story represented well what I am feeling to say about this issues:
"Democrats frequently cited the Connecticut school shooting and the Colorado theater shooting as they argued the limits are needed.
Arguing for the magazine ammunition limits, Democratic Sen. Mary Hodge said the change to Colorado's heritage and the potential inconveniences on gun owners paled in comparison to the pain of gun violence.
'This bill is merely an attempt to reduce the slaughter,' Hodge said."
I pray for more peace in America and in American families. I pray for healthier food and more progressive thinking. I pray for more honest government leaders and no more corporate lobbying. I think these thing might maybe help America's gun problem more than gun laws. That's just how I feel. I wish we didn't wait until the slaughter before we try to solve problems. It doesn't seem right. Maybe if GMO's could kill so publicly, we could fight about that issue now too before it destroys us.
I wish there were no guns, but because they exist and will continue to exist regardless of what controls are placed on them you won't find me without my own gun. Those who choose evil will always have access to guns regardless of the controls placed on them. Don't prevent the good people from having the ability to protect themselves. Of course some limitations are reasonable (permits, licenses, etc.), but to try and take them away only hurts those who live lawfully.
