Broken leg: Week 6

It was finally time to get Kenna's cast off! I first had to figure out how or where. To be honest, I tried "how" first. I watched you tube videos of doctors cutting them off, and I read post from ER nurses about sewing up people after "self-cast-removal." I opted begrudgingly for a doctor. I called around and found a local doctor who would do it for $200 instead of $350. Yuck! Kenna has even so excited to get the carat off since we got to Colorado. When she first got it on and wanted it off, we said it would be a long time. "We'll be living in Colorado by the time we get that off!" So when we got here, she thought it was cast-off time. Needless to say she was ready. It took the nurse and nurse practitioner awhile to finish the job, and to tell you the truth I was not but sure that they were not going to cut Kenna and/or lose a finger. It felt like the blind leading the blind. I even joked about the YouTube videos in case they felt like they needed to ask for some advice. The nurse practitioner even accidentally put the saw down on the table too soon when it was still spinning and nicked the fabric. But miracles happen and prayers are answered. Kenna is fine! Well, she will walks like a wounded duck. She doesn't quite realize that she can bend her knee, so she still keeps it straight and drags it behind her. I've been working with her, but it might be a long journey. Her leg is still pretty dry and gross. She at ratchets it for about 4 hours yesterday until we finally took her to the hot springs pool. She could move easy and strategic away without me yelling at her to stop getting a full layer of smelling dead skin all over the Honda. Poor thing has big scratch marks a over the new skin today. Back to the pool. Maybe the minerals will heal it ... And teach her how to walk again.
