Today the pastor at St. John's Episcopal had some interesting things to say.
Like most spiritual doctrine, when you hear it, it feels like WOW, and then when you repeat it, it sounds like, "No Duh!" But today's message was especially beautiful to me.
Pastor Dave got on the topic of crooked, and how "not straight" we all are. We have faults, issues, woes, sorrows, fears, and our life paths go from one place to another. But the beauty of us all being so all over the place -- emotionally, spiritually, and physically -- is that every time we notice an imperfection, we get the chase to search for the good -- to realize that we all have a light from the universe that is beautiful. We all have the power to forgive and be forgiven. We all mostly have as much beauty as ugly within us. One of the miracles of our stress, is the feeling of our peace.
I have always loved searching for the good in people, and I hope I always will. I find it even easier now to find that good than it used to be. I'm grateful for that. I'm grateful for a universe that has energy and power and beauty and light. I don't so much care which story people tell to explain these miracles, but I am grateful these powers are there. They make life feel bigger and more important. And they make every soul beautiful to me. And everyday more like a miracle.
At the end of the thought, Dave recited the nursery rhyme:
- There was a crooked man, and he walked a crooked mile.
- He found a crooked sixpence upon a crooked stile.
- He bought a crooked cat, which caught a crooked mouse,
- And they all lived together in a little crooked house.
- When he said that last part about the little crooked house -- he humbly looked to the ceiling above us in the chapel and a gave a little grin to the congregation. I smiled back.
