Cascade Falls

Tonight after dinner we took our first trip to Cascade Falls -- a big Ouray attraction about 300 yards from the Victorian. There is something pretty special about walking out of the front door and being right on the trail. We never touched pavement. It was really cold and 2 out of 5 of us got carried. Tim and Kenna ditched us to go closer to the falls, and although I had no reason to be annoyed, I was. Quinn and Lizza started crying about cold fingers, and I was trying to handle it alone -- again I had no reason to be upset -- but I can do whatever I want. I might have pouted. But to my credit the hike to the falls was representative of the great Tim and Jill conflict -- we agree on the crazy big picture, but we disagree with the implementation. Maybe this is the great man and woman conflict. From afar it's rosey, but up close there is so much to work out, fix up, and grow from. Either way, I loved being outside with my little family for the first time in Colorado. Quinn brought paper and a crayon and stopped to draw a picture of the falls. Then she led the way home with no help. We told her to look for clues and try to remember which way we came. She was super mad once we got back to the road and there were no more foot prints to follow. But we just said to stop and look and that she could do it. We were about 4 houses from home, and her kindergarten classroom window was a stones throw away. She looked, found her way, and stomped home -- still mad. But she loved it.
