Gus: the cutest fish in the world

Next to the hot springs pool in Ouray there is a fish pond. At first, I thought, "oh, fish." But then on the second or third visit to the pond -- ordered by the girls, of course -- I have fallen in love with this pond and with my favorite fish, Gus. As far as I can see, Gus is the largest and awesomest fish in Ouray. I declare this because has the cutest mouth in the world. You'll notice in the picture of McKenna and me, and we are not really making fish faces -- oh, but ARE we? This is the face that Gus makes when he reaches for food that you throw towards him. He is really slow, and he leans forward, opens his mouth really wide (but with big lips in the way) and then closes his mouth really slowly, even if another fish got the food. He must know he is slow because he won't even try for food if there are lots of other small, nimble fish around. So we follow him and wait for him to swim away, an then we give him all the food. Maybe he is slow because he is full. Any one with brains would see that he is the best fish and the only feed him, right? Visitors from all over the world probably take pictures of him, give him a name (like Gus), take self portraits with his fish face, and contribute to his diabetes via over feeding. I love you, Gus.
