On every Thursday night in June, Ouray city sponsors a music in the park night. There are bands, food booths from local restaurants, a free bounce house, and all finds of folks. The first thing that stuck out to me about this event was that people love it and look forward to it. Everyone I know reminded me more than once about music in the park. They love it. It's adorable. I thought it must be small because someone from town said, "we didn't see you there last week" when we were out of town. But, oh no, it was big. At least 500 people I not more. We had the bet kettle corn of our lives and scrambled to keep track of our kids who wanted to always be in three different places -- eating, swinging, dancing, bouncing, walking, talking. But we survived. Quinn and I went to the front to dance by the strange. We shook our booties by a very happy hippie who had not showered in a long time (pictured below). There was definitely some high old men in the back, but I tried to ignore them. We had fun bumping into friends we hadn't seen since school. It was like a kindergarten reunion in line for the bounce house.
Anyway, it's like Ouray is built for me. Booths? Dancing? Hippies? Free?
This is the right place (for me). (That's a Mormon joke. Look it up.)
