Ouray Magic
A few weeks ago, the book fair came to Ouray School. Every child got to go to the fair with their class and do an activity where they wrote down 3 books on a wish list. They talked about titles, money, subjects and had a good time. Even the preschool did this activity. When children went to the fair with their parents, someone secretly kept track of the books they bought. Today the school had an assembly. Suddenly a fairy ran into the room. He was an English teacher in a dress with wings. He danced around and gave every child a book from their wish list. The books were paid for by a secret local resident who just wanted to make sure each child had a book they loved. The children freaked out. That's the kind of goodness I want my children to feel all the time. I hope they grow up to give like that. Gifts like that are the magic of this small town. Gifts like that are what makes any place magical. It's like the man in our Utah ward who hired the kids who had dads out of work and the mystery person who made sure every child in our old neighborhood could afford a senior trip. It's the two scholarships that this town gives from the jeep raffle money. It's the woman who stopped the 2nd grade teacher at girls night to make sure a specific child in her class had a warm enough winter coat. Here. There. It's magic to me.
