One thing I love about this small town is walking around. I did all my errands for the last two days on foot. Yesterday I took Lizza and Kenna -- piled high in the single stroller -- to Main Street to get floss, yogurt, and other groceries from the market. We walked to a few other stores and tried in some clothes and then headed home. Today I took Kenna and Lizza with no stroller to the dentist! It was awesome. It was just right up the road, and the dentist was a genius (and I know dentists). Then we walked to the school to do some pre-registration for pre-k next year. We headed home to gather some lunch, and then we were were off -- on foot -- to the park.
Part of the walking life is my transfer from a handbag to a back pack. It's pretty Colorado. I got a new backpack for $2 at a yard sale, and I plan to get some sweet patches to make it my own. The nerdy hiking, hippie is growing and growing from deep inside me, and the future looks bright!
I met 4 people today. Two of them (not related) drove through this area decades ago and spent 20 to 30 years trying to find a way to finally move here. We are with our kind for sure.
One thing I do miss about Alpine is the clock tower. The clock tower chimes every hour in Alpine and plays songs on holidays. In Ouray everyday at noon -- the fire siren goes off the scares me to death. It's a small price to pay, but everyday it reminds me for a minute of people I love faraway.
